Release Party for Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty)

All, we would like to organize the release party for Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) next few weeks. Before we decide on this, anyone of you would like to join the party?

This party is celebrated worldwide (but not at the same time) to celebrate the release of the new Ubuntu release / version. During the party, what we have in mind are:
1. InstallFest to those who bring their own machines / laptops
2. Presentation on the new features in Jaunty
3. Chit chatting / Q&A session

We can actually invite members of KCBA to attend the release party as I saw some of the shop (the one I remember is PC Image) do sell their laptop with Ubuntu.

Btw, we haven't decided on when and where (maybe Swinburne) to celebrate it yet. Just check on this thread frequently to follow-up with it.

NOTES: Free Ubuntu Jaunty CDs will be distributed to all attendees.

Requested 50 CDs from Canonical and has been approved. Just wait for the CD to be delivered to me.

i do hope we can contact someone from PC Image who have pre-installed Ubuntu on laptops for sale at their premises. i foresee a problem where Ubuntu is too easy to install and anyone can do it but then the user is not properly educated about how to use it and then a bad first impression is made. we need to get their participation if the Ubuntu OS is not to be looked down upon by newcomers.

Agree with Donald on this. That's why I am inviting those people to join the meet up so that we can discuss on how to move forward from there instead of to impress the customer at the first time to sell their laptops then ignoring them after the sale.

We hope that those PC retailers will be able / would like to work with us in promoting Ubuntu to locals but must following the correct paths to make sure that the customers / public are educated on how to use it.
